easily the best Indian movie in 2009.... and one of the best ever
I was lucky to see the first day show of 3 idiots on Thursday in Dubai. Well the title of this post says it all. The movie is an example of classic film making. brilliant and highly entertaining.

Watch 3 idiots for a) amir khan's incredible acting b) intelligent and highly energatic screenplay & direction (Rajkumar Hirani has done it yet again!) c) amazing chemistry among actors, d) some of the best comedy scenes coming from Indian cinema in a long time and e) a heart warming story which keeps you spell binded right till the end.

I would rate it as among the best from amir khan (which obviously means among the very best from bollywood. I would also give a lot of credit to the director rajkumar hirani, who after this movie (and his previous munna bhai series) should rank as among the top in bollywood too. 9/10.

Priyanka acting was superb Bajirao Mastani a watch movie
Ranveer acting was great direction and music was superb Deepika looking beautiful location screen great a must watch a movie for everyone in your life everything is great go watch... Priyanka Chopra, on the other hand, is the better performer of the two in this film. Priyanka's Kashibai loves her husband to death. Each time Priyanka looks at Ranveer Singh her face lights up like a brightly-lit skyline. When Bajirao falls in love with another woman Kashibai doesn't surrender to destiny. She is no walkover. She protests. She sneers. She is angry. But finally for the sake of her husband's happiness and the larger good, she accepts the situation. Kashibai teaches us the most important lesson of this film. Acceptance of injustice is sometimes the opposite of cowardice. Priyanka conveys all these emotions with near-flawless comprehension of her character's inner world. This is her best to date.

There are no words...

To describe just how incredibly bad this movie is. Seriously...what was Netflix thinking when they gave the green light to this horrible piece of dreck? You know the kind of movie you start watching and about half an hour in you realize just how incredibly bad it is but you figure you're this far in so you might as well see it through? Yeah that is this movie.

From horrible dialogue to incredibly offensive stereotypes (and this is coming from someone who loathes being pc) this movie has just about everything you can think of to dislike in a movie.

Sandler brings along his usual companions in this one (Buscemi, Schneider...Vanilla Ice(???)) but even that (formerly) funny bunch cannot save...this.

Point Break (2015)
26 December 2015 | by – See all my reviews
I sincerely hope the original Point Break is much different than this lifeless, hippy-dippy, overblown Mountain Dew commercial. I've never seen the original movie, so I have no bias towards it. Based on the movie's own merit's, the Point Break remake is laughably awful. In Point Break, a rookie FBI agent tracks down a group of extreme athletes who go around the world carrying out crimes in unusual and life-threatening ways; they plan to do a series of near- impossible stunts called the Ozaki 8 in hopes of reaching spiritual enlightenment. At least, that was the plot for about ten minutes before the movie devolves into a series of party scenes and surprisingly dull extreme sports clips that could have been easily viewed on YouTube, all set to irritating club music. It takes a special director to make BASE jumping and cliff diving this boring. Ericson Core builds as little suspense as possible in his action set pieces and instead films admittedly well-shot highlights reels for the action scenes. Any sort of suspense conjured up is because of the great cinematography because the characters are so flat and annoying that you almost wish they would get killed off. Everyone in this movie acts stoned out of their mind. All they do is spit faux- philosophical nonsense which gets tiring after the first twenty minutes. It gets laughable towards the end of the movie with lines like "Ideas are strong. But not as strong as a whaling ship," and no amount of context will make that line any less ridiculous. The unbearable dialog, muddled plot and dull characters makes this Point Break remake utterly pointless. If you're not a fan of remakes, this will make you reach your breaking point.

Very funny!
23 December 2015 | by (United States) – See all my reviews
DADDY'S HOME was such a pleasant surprise to me, I was just expecting your usual Will Ferrell type comedy where he'd be yelling and screaming on and on and on and we the audience are supposed to just take it and find it hysterical somehow, but nope, DADDY'S HOME is actually funny from start to finish! I couldn't stop laughing.

Co-written and directed by Sean Anders, Will Ferrell plays a mild mannered executive at a Jazz radio station. His character, Brad Whitaker, is a husband material, financially stable, responsible, but a bit too by the book. He's married to Sara (Linda Cardellini) who has two kids from previous marriage to Dusty Mayron (Mark Wahlberg). Now, Dusty is everything Brad is not, he's Brad's complete opposite, a renegade, cool, he's got that bad boy look and not to mention super-buffed as hell, let's just say that ladies get their panties wet at the first sight of Dusty. Ever since he could remember, Brad has always wanted to be a dad and it's tough being a step-dad because the kids would often pull that old fashioned "you're not my dad" card, but Brad plows through, he believes in his book methods, and he finally connects with them, seems like a happy ending, until Dusty comes back into the kids' picture. He's the cool dad by a long shot, and ya know how it is, cool beats ordinary every time, or does it? That's when this dad vs. step dad begins. It takes him a while but Brad finally learns of Dusty's sabotage, and the battle is on.

Here are some of the reasons why I think this movie works comedically, as I said earlier it's finally a movie where Will Ferrell doesn't just yell and scream loudly for long periods of time for no reason. Next to "Anchorman," DADDY'S HOME is a movie that actually showcases Will Ferrell for the funnyman he really is. Another point is that Dusty's sabotage is done in this very clever way that even in Dusty's or Brad's most ridiculous attempts, you'll find yourself rooting for both because you see the good qualities that each one has despite Brad's dorkiness and Dusty's insecurity. The comedy serves the characters, not the other way around, that's ultimately what makes DADDY'S HOME effective. And ladies, if you've been a fan of Mark Wahlberg's all your life, baby you're about to love him more, if there's ever a movie that really accentuates Marky Mark in all his glory, DADDY'S HOME is it. The man even gets to practically work out half-naked in front of you! DADDY'S HOME is slapstick physical type family comedy but it also shows how difficult it is for parents to win the affection of their kids at times. Families come in different shapes, sizes, and forms these days, but you can make it work. Equally hilarious scene-stealing supporting performances by Thomas Haden Church and Bobby Cannavale, DADDY'S HOME is funny and heartwarming.

Right on the Money and on the Fraud
13 December 2015 | by (United States) – See all my reviews
'The Big Short' is a winner. Based on Michael Lewis book of the same title, it tells the sorry story of the fraud and deceit practiced on the American people, nay, on the world by Wall Streets finance capitalism. We know the culprits: Goldman Sachs, JP Morgan, Lehman Bros., Morgan Stanley, Citibank, Wachovia, Crdit Suisse, UBS and on and on who invented financial instruments such as CDO, credit swaps and other fancy unintelligible names, based on mortgages, with the connivance of the credit agencies--Dow Jone, Standard and Poors and Fitch. 'The Big Short' with a light seriousness is a crash course on the duplicity of Wall Street investment bankers who earned large fees on junk bonds with triple A ratings; who bundled junk to palm off on an unsuspecting public looking for big gains by pandering to the snake oil exilir of getting rich quickly; and who feed on the niavety of the broad American have-nots with the dream of owning a home of their own. And so with some humor but much sadness are we lead through the byways of four different groups of bankers who saw the hoax for what it was and its impending implosion that would bring down the deck of cards of capitalism. And the took out bets on the market, by buying short. And they won big time! But the banks are still around, and the ratepayers footed the bailout, but at what cost! And we see this in the turmoil of the Republican party: for the discontent abroad in the US has thrown more than 25 percent of the population into poverty, loss of jobs, home, into heavy debt and no future for their children. And these banks have not reformed their ways...now they've come up with the same of gimmicks with a fancy name--something like beneficial financial tranche--as the play the same old mug's game. And like the Bourbons, t The cast is stellar--especially Christian Bale and Steve Carell and Ryan Gosling as well as the minor players. And like the Bourbons, in the words of Talleyrand, 'they learned nothing and forgot nothing', but the contempt they have for all of us. And to make the case stronger, the fools on the Supreme Court have strengthened the hands of big money and the oligopoly and the fat cats of Wall Street and the coupon clippers and the devil take the rest of us!

Joy proves that both Jennifer Lawrence and David O. Russell have lost their touch.
27 December 2015 | by (United States) – See all my reviews
Joy tells the story of a strong willed woman or, as our narrator concludes, the film is about all strong women everywhere. We are introduced to Joy (Jennifer Lawrence) as she plays outside her father Rudy's (Robert De Niro) auto shop store. We get glimpses of dysfunction within her family and then it spits us out somewhere between one surrealist scene in which Joy dreams about soap opera stars and her family harassing her and then it goes into her family life and why she is in the situation she's in. This patterns continues throughout the whole film, allowing us to never feel an ounce of concern over Joy and her miraculous mop. Why care about someone who can literally figure a way out of every unsavory situation she is in and into every beneficial situation she's in. There's no suspense, no wonder, no enchantment. This film feels like a biopic but ends up coming across as a half assed attempt at one as it blends the corniness of soap operas into the seriousness of David O. Russell as a filmmaker. In the end, it never works. Not even once as a film. Instead, the film subjects us to situations that Joy is in that we care nothing about. Whether it is mending things with her mother and father or fending off those looking for a free ride, you know before it even starts that Joy is going to get out of it. This makes for a painfully boring film. The performances are good here, as with any David O. Russell film (except this year's Accidental Love). Jennifer Lawrence is being Jennifer Lawrence. There's no acting required here for her. She can sleep walk through a strong willed woman role and she does so here. Despite being the lead role, Lawrence is the weakest link here. She was the weakest part of American Hustle and she is the weakest part here and it is a testament to Russell continuously casting her in roles that should be played by actresses ten years her senior. American Hustle it was pretty clear she was out of her element, there's no difference with Joy. She wallows in a mature aurora to her but it never really rings true no matter how hard Lawrence tries (and trust me, she does give her all here). It ends up being a good performance in a woefully miscast film. The supporting actors are plentiful, some even stealing whole scenes. One highlight here is Robert De Niro. Russell has proved he can get the absolute best out of De Niro. This is refreshing to see especially because we all thought he gave up with some of his recent film choices but De Niro can surprise us with touching performances in between playing cookie cutter gangsters and cops. Bradley Cooper is good here and will make you want more out of him but this is a showcase for Jennifer Lawrence so let your hopes down easy. Overall, Joy demonstrates that David O. Russell has a confident handle on his performers but it also proves that he is merely a carbon copy of Martin Scorsese (or at least he is trying to be). It is an uneven film that is inspired by Goodfellas in the way Joy's story is told and unfortunately for this film, gangsters are much more interesting than housewives making a fancy mop...no matter how kick ass that mop may be in real life, the film feels like a rip off in more ways than one.
